Westen Raleigh was born on January 22, 2012. He was 7lbs 12oz and was 21inches long. His birth mommy was in labor for 13 hours and pushed for 2 hours. His birth momma was so strong! She was really amazing through the whole labor. She was so gracious to let us be there to witness his birth and to take some cute pictures of him (some of these pictures were also taken by his birth mommy's sister).
Branden was able to cut the cord. Branden was really nervous about not passing out during the whole birthing experience. But he did really well...and stayed on his feet. Westen was having a little bit of a hard time breathing, so he was a little bit purple.
He was breathing well within a few minutes, but gave us a mini scare.
His birth mommy was the first to hold him and she loved on him for quite a while.
Branden was the first of the two of us to hold him. We just loved on him a little bit and let his birth family spend the majority of the time with him at the hospital.
I snuck in a little cuddle the next day. As you can tell by his cute chubby cheeks, he was eating like crazy and gained 2 ounces in the first 24 hours.
Westen's bilirubin levels (the stuff that causes Jaundice) were high, so he got to wear a superhero eye mask and laid on the blue lights for 2 days.
Love at first sight...it really warmed my heart to see it just radiate off Branden and sneak through Melanee's tears.
